Tour du Mene
April 26th marked the beginning of an exciting adventure, characterized by an early start that filled the air with anticipation. The day commenced with a
2-hour drive in our beloved 1946 Ford pickup, a classic vehicle that has seen many roads and carries with it a sense of nostalgia. Our destination was Le Gouray, the designated starting point for the highly anticipated 2026 Tour du Mene, an event that promised not only a journey through picturesque landscapes but also a celebration of automotive history.
Upon arrival at Le Gouray, we were greeted by a remarkable turnout of fellow enthusiasts, with approximately 300 cars of all ages lining the streets. This diverse assembly included vintage models, modern classics, and everything in between, each vehicle telling its own story through its unique design and history. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the sounds of revving engines and the chatter of excited participants, all eager to embark on this memorable journey together.
At precisely 9 am, the moment we had all been waiting for arrived. We were officially flagged away, setting off in a grand procession that followed a scenic route winding around the beautiful Mene region. The route was carefully chosen to showcase the stunning natural beauty of the area, with rolling hills, lush greenery, and charming landscapes that seemed to come straight out of a postcard. As we drove through each village, we were met with enthusiastic cheers from locals who had gathered outside their homes, waving with smiles and capturing the moment with their cameras. This sense of community added a warm, welcoming touch to our adventure, making us feel like part of something much larger than ourselves.
As our convoy progressed, the sound of car horns filled the air, a joyful symphony that echoed through the small lanes and hamlets we passed. The sight of our colorful procession weaving through the quaint streets was a spectacle that drew the attention of everyone around. In a show of support, traffic on the main roads was halted, allowing us to cross in a synchronized convoy, a rare sight that highlighted the camaraderie among the participants and the organizers of the event.
Before long, it was time to take a much-needed break for coffee. This pause not only provided us with the opportunity to recharge but also allowed us to admire the variety of cars that had gathered. Enthusiasts exchanged stories about their vehicles, sharing tips and experiences, and marveling at the craftsmanship that each car represented. It was a moment of connection, where the love of automobiles brought together people from different backgrounds and experiences.
After enjoying our refreshments, we set off once again, continuing our journey through the stunning countryside until we reached lunchtime. This stop was another chance to refuel ourselves, both literally and figuratively, as we shared laughs and stories with fellow participants. The camaraderie was palpable, and the excitement of the day was infectious, making the experience all the more enjoyable.
As the afternoon progressed, we resumed our drive, reveling in the freedom of the open road and the thrill of being part of such a unique event. Finally, we arrived at Saint Joseph, where our adventure culminated in taking over a local sports hall. Here, we were treated to a well-deserved meal, a fitting end to a day filled with exploration, connection, and celebration of our shared passion for cars. The event not only showcased the beauty of the region but also strengthened the bonds among car enthusiasts, creating memories that would last long after the engines had cooled.
